Ice Cave Tour

Ice Cave Tour

A trip to an ice cave is indeed a unique experience

It gives you a chance to store in your memory a place you rarely have an opportunity to visit anywhere else.  It is a visit under the edge of a glacier tongue located at Vatnajökull National Park. You are practically inside Europe’s largest glacier experiencing the interaction of light and ice in a breathtaking way that words can barely describe.

The tour starts in a super jeep from the parking lot by the famous Jökulsárlón iceberg lagoon to the edge of Breiðamerkurjökull glacier tongue; The caves are a product water, ice and temperature changes during spring and summer.  The drive to the glacier takes about 30-45 minutes depending on the snow packed on the road.  At the cave, you have about 45 minutes to explore, enjoy and photograph the cave and breath in the energy of the glacier.

Ice Cave Tour Vatnajökull Glacier

Ice caves are a natural phenomenon and thus always changing.  Sometimes our favorite cave, Crystal Cave, is impassable because of water. In those cases we will go to another cave as we have one of the most expertise and knowledge about the ice caves at Breiðamerkurjökull glacier tongue.  Each cave has it’s own identity but all are magnificent in their own way.  Before taking visitors to a cave we explore available caves offered to visitors each time before entering as well as season. And keep in mind that ice caves change from season to season and even from month to month so they are always unique and do not always look precisely the same as on photos you might have seen.

All ice cave tours are undertaken on the responsibility of its participants. We do not assume any responsibility for accidents that are caused or can be traced to customers own actions or recklessness.   Participant in our tours must always comply with guides instructions for safety.  Ice caves are a natural phenomenon and ever-changing.
