The charming thing about small towns and villages in Iceland are the old houses. Some of them trace their history back to the 18th century and even farther back. Often the history of old houses is quite fascinating, as well as the history of the village. In recent years many owners of old houses from the 18th and the 19th century, have renovated their houses. Some of the houses have a new role as small museums, guesthouses or hotels. In Eyrarbakki, about an hours drive from Reykjavík, there are many excellent houses. To take a walk through the village takes about an hour and is a delightful morning walk with attractive houses that have an interesting history.
