The steepest mountain road or the mountain pass in Iceland on both sides, up and down, is "Helisheiði eystri". Although this mountain road is not officially part of the Ring Road, it connects the Eastern Region and the Northern Region a bit north of the main Ring Road. The drive is approximately 14 kilometers, and the highest point is about 660 meters. Even though driving the road is a bit intimidating the view from the top is astonishing. For anyone traveling the Ring Road, it is an option to take this opportunity and experience the view and drive through some of the interesting small towns in the north-east area. The view over the eastern part is just breathtaking and gives an overview over the lowland and the mountains of a radius of many kilometers. On the top are at least two to tree options to stop at a small parking lot to take photos and inhale the view.
