Tonight an unusually strong appearance of the northern lights are forecasted by the Icelandic Met Office in Iceland. Strength is estimated to be around 6 on a scale of 0 to 9. Usually the highest strength during winter, the whole northern lights season in Iceland, is around 5. Most of the time the strength is around 3 to 4 which gives quite a satisfactory and often spectacular Northern Lights but requires a dark area. A strength of 6 and a clear sky makes it easier to see the Aurora Borealis in a city or in any urban area.
To enhance the possibility of seeing and viewing the city of Reykjavík and neighbouring municipalities have decided to shut down the street lights and other lights that might disturb the viewing of the Northern Lights. Furthermore city officials have encouraged people to turn as many lights of in their home and outside their homes to secure as little light as possible in the city and towns.
Consequently with all the attention on the Aurora Borealis the a Northern Lights small hype has developed among the citizens and visitors. This is quite interesting for visitors that have traveled to Iceland to see the northern lights. Although most of them have seen much of the northern lights in the past three days, this is something more. Everyone is talking about it, everyone is preparing for it. And wa all expect a great night tonight.
