The experience of a personal sanctuary and peace is part of visiting Iceland

To be on your own placed in a large landscape with no sound other than the waves on the beach and the songs of birds looking for food in the sand or beneath the surface of the sea is an experience of a lifetime. A sanctuary from all the noises you recognize so well from constantly living in a large city with its traffic, disturbances, threats, intimidation and unclean air.   You are surrounded by beauty and stillness at the same time overpowered by the magnitude of the landscape. Walking in your own peaceful thoughts, completely alone, on the orange beach embraced by the ocean, the waves, the violet cliffs, the purple mountains almost hiding under the low clouds and fog.  A sound from a small lamb breaks the silence, and a flock of swans flying over your head.  The remote with its vast space becomes an option deep in your mind, and you sense a new kind of relaxation in an unfamiliar context.  And you inhale it to treasure in your mind wondering how you can capture it with a camera or your phone. Can a selfie store this moment with its feelings and mind blowing peace? Is there a way to convey this quiet personal moment on a faraway shore at an unfamiliar place in an isolated part of a cold and exotic country? All this is part of the effort if you travel to Iceland.  A part of taking the time to enjoy things you are doomed to miss if you travel in a hurry.
